New Morning

It’s early in the morning, the surge of a new age , sunrise at the break of the day
I am way past the cradle but for all that I know, the grave is still lightyears away
There might be bumps in the road, holes in my soul, but I’m driving as good as I can
I got my sleeves rolled up, my hair combed down, I’m a picture of a man.
I got the top rolled down, I got the radio on and man, I still got sleep in my eyes
But better watch out, Mister, I’m ready to roll and face the vast intricacies of life

There is music by the river as the evening dawns and moonlight gleams in the eyes
Of all the pretty little ladies that have come out tonight, dropped their fathers’ advice.
And all the young men are chasing illusions, talk themselves into trouble it seems
That the play that we stage on a night like tonight needs broken teenage dreams.
And then I see you out of nowhere with your red hair shining, a fire on top of the hill
See, all through your life, many moments you forget, but some, Mister, some you never will.

There is blood on the tracks that I’m leaving behind
On the road to a brand new day
I was comfortably numb, I was tangled up in blue
And I was lonely, so lonely without you.

Oh come hell or high water, come rain or come shine I will throw all my doubts into jail
I been down at the bottom in a world full of bile, but right now, I’m too good to fail
I’ve chased away the shadows, captured my ghosts, God knows what took me so long
To lift the veil from my eyes, to dust of my broom and to realize that you are the one.
But if you’re scared of the future, at odds with your faith, when worries seem to overflow.
I will carry you darling, swear by God, I will make you the happiest woman you know.

There is blood on the tracks that I’m leaving behind
On the road to a brand new day
I was comfortably numb, I was tangled up in blue
And I was lonely, so lonely without you.
