1917

So I sit here tonight at the end of the day
Brooding over the things I could not grasp
You’re gone for good and forever it seems
I guess we really can’t repeat the past.

But I still recall the music, vividly and obscene
We danced until the morning and our records clean
Oh, you were just a poor boy, determined, fair, and keen
She promised you to wait in Louisville,  1917

The fading glory of life and of dreams unfulfilled
They haunt me, every time I go to bed
Shallow confessions of love and the indifference
And all the rumors that they spread

We all pay the price for the path that we choose
And one day, your love just set the seal
A desperate bullet, I guess integrity kills
The truth that the silence can’t reveal

But I still recall the parties, vividly and obscene
We danced until the morning and our records clean
Oh, you were just a poor boy, determined, fair, and keen
She promised you to wait in Louisville,  1917

So I sit here tonight, you would love it, old sport
The green light shines across the bay
And the orgastic future that we’re drifting towards
Like the past is led astray
